Geo Web Services (GWS) gain more and more importance today. Since the INSPIRE directive was adopted in 2007 a significant increase of availa-ble GWS can be noticed. The INSPIRE directive requires a certain quality of service (QoS). Thus quality aspects for GWS become more important. The quality of GWS needs to be defined, specified and especially deter-mined. It is also necessary to establish a common evaluation procedure including the corresponding test procedures. In this paper we present a gen-eral evaluation procedure for GWS and we demonstrate its applicability us-ing the most famous cartographic service – the Web Map Service (WMS) – as an example.
