In Austria, several Alliance models are being executed or have been completed acc. to the conditions of the BVergG. Further large infrastructure projects are in the preparation phase for tendering. TIWAG has three projects in various stages of implementation. In Germany, several large-scale, complex infrastructure projects are being handled as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) in different project phases. The German IPD models are based on a comprehensive approach to project integration, which includes a competition of competence. Infrastructure clients such as DB InfraGo AG, as well as large power grid operators like Amprion GmbH, use IPD to realize their major projects. In both countries, clients recognize the benefits of IPD and Alliances with their partnership components for goal-oriented project execution. In the Austrian projects, there is so far little or hardly any project integration and early involvement of stakeholders. Additionally, tenders and awards are still determined by the classic price competition. The authors are involved in most of the Austrian projects and many of the German infrastructure projects. The first experiences from these projects are presented, along with the challenges and further optimization needs. Finally, an advancement of IPD with the Progressive Partnering Contract Civil engineering (PPCC) is outlined.
