Abstract:
A novel approach for signal presence detection and geolocation in distributed satellite systems is proposed. The method exploits cyclostationary properties of communication signals. Based on a linear time-varying Doppler effect approximation, a model for the cyclic cross correlation function (CCCF) for a signal transmitted by an earth-borne emitter that is received at multiple LEO satellites is derived. For narrow-band signals, it is shown that the cyclic features in the CCCF cannot be estimated ad-hoc due to time-varying Doppler effects which cause severe smearing. A matched filter is proposed to fully recover the cyclic features. Further processing of these features enables the determination of time and frequency difference of arrival for the geolocation of the receiver. «
