The process of reflexive modernization affects more and more pedagogical action in institutional relations. Also the German armed forces are actually reforming their system of apprenticeship to deal with the worldwide processes of transformation and globalization. In the context of leadership training of army sergeants, the reform of the branches and careers causes a lot of consequences and challenges for the instructors of the German sergeants´ school. The examination analyses how the instructors deal with the situation and how they fulfill their tasks. The analysis engages in: the description and analysis of the conditions of the instructors´ action, the description of the relation between conditions of action, pedagogical theories and concrete action in instructional situations, considerations with regard to the quality management, the integration of the results into the field of professional research, recommendations to improve the existing conditions of apprenticeship. The study is based upon a methodical design, which uses a triangulation of document analysis, structured and problem-centered interviews, questionnaires, conversations and observations.
