Abstract:
The Institute of Jet Propulsion of the University of the German Federal Armed Forces
Munich performs extensive experimental and numerical investigations with a linear cascade
representing a pro
le of a variable inlet guide vane (VIGV) of a radial compressor. The
VIGV is used to control the operating point of the compressor by setting the swirl of the
in
ow. For this reason the stagger angle can be varied between 0 and more than 90. The
investigations presented within this work handle with an assessment of the pro
le loading
and loss at a set of di
erent Reynolds numbers and Mach numbers as well as for varied
stagger angles. Considering the Reynolds number as function of the chord length it is
shown that the outlet
ow of a VIGV is not constant along the blade height for
S 6= 90.
Part I of the paper shows the experimental investigation of an VIGV and in part II the
numerical results are discussed. «
