Abstract:
In this work, we describe analytical and empirical approaches for room geometry determination using beamsteering. The channel impulse responses were obtained both from a ray-tracing model and channel measurements. The paper presents an algorithm for object detection by means of an analysis of the impulse response of electromagnetic waves at 60 GHz carrier frequency. The positions of the first-order reflectors are estimated using the information about the angles of arrival and departure and the length of the Line-of-Sight (LOS) path, and further improved knowing the time delays between LOS and Non-LOS (NLOS) paths. The algorithm assumes the estimation of the distance between transmitter and receiver using ranging techniques. The results demonstrate that based on mmWave beamforming techniques and evaluation of the angular resolved power delay profiles, a reconstruction of a room geometry including the position of reflecting objects is possible. A comparison of the results from a ray-tracing model using two empirical methods with an equivalent real set-up in an anechoic chamber shows a likelihood for further implementation of new algorithms base on channel impulse responses from the model. «
