Abstract:
The local temperature increase induced by ion energy deposition in tissue creates an "ionoacoustic" ultrasound signal, particularly at the dose maximum (Bragg peak). This signal may be used for range verification in ion beam therapy in the future, which is still an important challenge for this irradiation modality.
